Viktoria Nowak from Poland won the 14th edition of Eurovision Young Dancers in Pilsen in 2015. After dancing Piece In Old Style she was declared the winner. With just weeks to go until the 2017 edition of the competition in Prague, we caught up with Viktoria to find out what happened after she won Eurovision Young Dancers.
Viktoria Nowak began dancing aged eight, when her mother took her to ballet school for the first time. She enjoyed the experience of dancing so much that she carried on. When she was 11 years old Viktoria performed at the Grand Theatre in Poznan and has also starred in performances of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, and Cinderella.
What has Viktoria been up to since she won the competition? "I have lots of nice memories of Eurovision Young Dancers. Participating in the competition was an incredible adventure," she said. "Since summer 2015 I have been working in Poznan, in the Grand Theatre and also became a member of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. The competition gave me the opportunity to meet and work with wonderful people," added Viktoria.
Did Eurovision Young Dancers help her career? "Absolutely. Winning Eurovision Young Dancers helped me to become more recognisable. I still get invitations from magazines to take part in photo shoots. The competition helped me to understand the value of team work as well."
Does Viktoria have any advice for people thinking of entering Eurovision Young Dancers? "I think the important thing is to be open and learn from each other. Winning is not the most important thing." What does the future hold for Viktoria? "I will continue to dance, I am enjoying my work in Frankfurt but as for the distant future, time will tell!"
Thank you to Viktoria for taking the time to speak to YoungDancers.tv!
