Vahagn Margaryan was born on September 5, 1995 in Armenia. Hes started to dance since his childhood. At the age of 14 he entered Yerevan State College of Dance, to the department of Armenian Folk Dance, but later in 2010 he moved to the  the department of Ballet. In Eurovision Young dancers Vahagn's choreographer is Arsen Mehrabyan, the leading dancer of Swedish Royal Ballet.

In 1982, after decades of success for the Eurovision Song Contest, the EBU held the first International Competition for Young Musicians. After its successful launch, the EBU Working Party for Television Music Programmes decided to organise a similar event for young dancers. The Eurovision Competition for Young Dancers, later Eurovision Young Dancers, was born.
Dancers from 11 countries competed in the first edition of the competition. The winner was the Spanish dancer Arantxa Argüelles, followed by the Norwegian dancer Arne Fagerholt, who came second, and the Swedish couple formed by Mia Stagh and Göran Svalberg, who came third.
Just like the Eurovision Song Contest, the Young Musicians and Young Dancers contests were supervised by Frank Naef.
