The third Eurovision Young Dancers competition was held at the Palais des Congrès de Paris, France on the 26th of June, 1989.

Two countries — Cyprus and Portugal — took part in the contest for the first time.
Each dancer was free to participate in any of the following two categories: Classical dancing or Contemporary, modern or jazz dancing.
This year, there were four awards to win. A contemporary dance prize was won by France and a classical dance prize was won by the United Kingdom. There were also two special jury prizes won by Switzerland (classical) and Spain (contemporary).
The jury consisted of:
  • Roland Petit (Marseille) as Head of the Jury
  • Frank Andersen (Copenhagen)
  • Oscar Araiz (Geneva)
  • Paolo Bortoluzzi (Düsseldorf)
  • Igor Eisner (France)
  • Ekaterina Maximova (USSR)
